IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of its first Ruby Hotels properties since acquiring the brand in 2025. These new additions include a Ruby Hotel in Berlin, slated for 2028, and one in Copenhagen, set to open in 2027.
Ruby Hotels’ expansion in Europe
In 2025, IHG Hotels & Resorts took another step in its growth strategy by acquiring Ruby Hotels. As part of this acquisition, the brand made its debut in two major European cities: Berlin and Copenhagen.
The new Ruby Hotel in Berlin, with 375 rooms, is set to open in 2028. It will be developed in collaboration with the Empira Group and operated by The Ruby Group. The hotel will be located in the Ku’damm Eck building, an iconic property on the prestigious Kurfürstendamm boulevard. The hotel will offer a contemporary experience with a rooftop terrace on the 12th floor, providing panoramic views of the city.
Meanwhile, the Copenhagen property, featuring 219 rooms, marks Ruby’s entry into Denmark and is expected to open in 2027, with ECE partnering in its development and The Ruby Group handling operations.
IHG’s vision for Ruby Hotels
Karin Sheppard, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, IHG Hotels & Resorts, commented: “When we acquired the Ruby Hotels brand, we saw really exciting opportunities to grow the brand both here in Europe and around the world as it meets the demands of owners and guests for a premium urban lifestyle offering. As such, we are delighted to announce our first Ruby Hotel signings, together with The Ruby Group, less than six weeks since we welcomed the brand to our portfolio. We have seen widespread positivity and enthusiasm from our owners and investors for Ruby Hotels as they look to develop in the growing urban micro subsegment. These latest signings in Berlin and Copenhagen are strong reinforcements of the brand’s success in strategic city centre locations, and we can’t wait to see both hotels bring their style and charm to travellers in these two energetic capitals.”
Ruby Hotels’ growth across Europe
The Ruby Hotels brand, which was established in 2013, currently has 20 hotels across major European cities, with 12 more under construction. The expansion in Berlin and Copenhagen reinforces Ruby’s presence in key urban centers and supports IHG’s strategy to diversify and grow its portfolio of premium urban lifestyle hotels.
