How shifting expectations, digital tools, and workplace values are reshaping the future of corporate travel across generations

Apr 7, 2025

A recent study by Ipsos UK and American Express Global Business Travel reveals that nearly 70% of business travelers look forward to work trips, but generational differences emerge—particularly with Gen Z. While they value career growth opportunities through travel, Gen Z is less likely than older generations to feel their employers are responsible for their well-being during business trips.

Key takeaways

  • Generational differences: 70% of Gen Z enjoy business travel, but they experience more stress and disruptions. Millennials are the most positive, seeing travel as career-enhancing and team-building.
  • Support during disruptions: Most travelers felt supported during disruptions (84% UK, 90% US). Gen Z reported the highest disruption rates (45%).
  • Human vs. digital support: 60% want digital tools during disruptions, but 70% still prefer human help. Comfort with GenAI is higher among Millennials than Gen Z.
  • Bleisure travel trends: 62% have extended work trips for leisure, and 52% worked during leisure trips.
  • Remote/hybrid worker preferences: 40% of remote workers consider travel opportunities important when choosing jobs. Hybrid workers reported more diverse reasons for travel (client work, sales, etc.).
  • Future outlook: 55% expect to travel more in five years; two-thirds believe it will become easier.
