Accor and Propreal Capital Partners have signed a partnership agreement to open the Sofitel Porto, marking a new development in the luxury hotel sector. This new address in Porto, planned for 2028, reflects the group’s ambitions in terms of expansion in Europe.
Stronger collaboration for an ambitious project
The Sofitel Porto, due to open in 2028, is positioned as a new flagship for the Sofitel brand on the Iberian Peninsula. This project will be the first Sofitel hotel in Porto and the second in Portugal, after the Sofitel Lisbon Avenida Liberdade. The hotel was also recently acquired by Extendam.
The 132-room hotel, strategically located between Avenida dos Aliados and Rua de Santa Catarina, will be distinguished by its blend of French elegance and Portuguese culture.
“Porto is a city with a strong cultural and historical identity, and we are honoured to introduce Sofitel in such a prestigious location. Sofitel Porto will further strengthen the deep and historic link between Portugal and France.” – Maud Bailly, Managing Director of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems
The hotel will feature the brand’s own refined design blending Portuguese craftsmanship with a French touch under the direction of designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, to create an ambience in harmony with the local environment.
Strategic investment in the Portuguese market
The partnership between Accor and Propreal Capital Partners has resulted in the acquisition of a key location in Porto, a dynamic city undergoing rapid economic and cultural expansion.
“The Iberian Peninsula, and Portugal in particular, remains a key region in our investment strategy. We see strong growth potential there and our ambition is to develop exceptional assets.” – Yves de Kerdanet, Founder and Managing Director of Propreal Capital Partners
Sofitel Porto will feature several public spaces, different dining options and green areas designed to integrate nature into the urban setting. With its ideal location, the hotel aims to attract both international travellers and the local community.
A promising future for luxury in Porto
Xavier Grange, Director of Development for Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery & Emblems, underlined the importance of this opening in Accor’s growth strategy in Portugal:
“Sofitel Porto represents a key step in our dynamic development strategy in Portugal. This new signature hotel strengthens our presence in two emblematic cities, offering complementary urban experiences.”
With this new project, Accor continues its commitment to offer luxury addresses in key destinations in the EMEA region, as demonstrated by the openings in the United Arab Emirates and Egypt where the group will open two establishments: the Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nil and the Sofitel Legend Pyramids Giza.
