Chinese online travel platform, Fliggy, has revealed travel trends that has come out of the Chinese Spring Festival and Qingming festival.

It found in China there was a surge in luxury getaways with domestic flights and hotel bookings seeing significant increases, with 4- and 5-star hotels that offer luxury travel options experiencing the fastest growth.

Destinations popular among the Chinese holidaymakers included Shanghai, Beijing, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, and more.

While outbound destinations that proved popular for tourists were Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong SAR, Thailand, and Singapore, which all remainn highly sought-after.

Countries experiencing the fastest growth in travel bookings include Austria, Hungary, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Uzbekistan, Norway, Georgia, Germany, and Brazil.

Outbound bookings for departures 2 days pre-holiday rose 20% Year-on-Year, with oerseas attraction tickets rising by 56%, international cruises spiked by 172% and international train tickets skyrocketed by 293%.

Domestic car rentals have surged by 33% as travelers embrace the warmth of spring. Outbound train ticket bookings have skyrocketed by over 200%, signaling a revival of relaxed and scenic travel experiences.

The average spending per traveler increased by nearly 5% Year-on-Year and car rentals surged 41% Year-on-Year to an average of 3.1 days for rental duration.

Zhang Chen, vice president of Fliggy, said: “This Qingming Festival was the first long weekend in Spring.

“The surge in suburban travel during the holiday gave the industry reasons to be optimistic about the demand for back-to-nature getaways.

“Experiences focused on outdoor activities – such as hiking, birdwatching, and tea picking – highlighted a desire among urban dwellers to escape the city and reconnect with nature. We anticipate this trend to continue throughout the year.”
