Sandburn Hall, near York, has made it to the final three best large hotels in the country in this June’s VisitEngland Awards for Excellence after winning last month’s VisitYork Tourism Awards.

Sandburn Hall, set on a 1000 acre country estate, is one of Yorkshire’s leading hospitality, golf, wedding, events and business venues, including a 40-bedroom hotel,  18-hole championship golf course, Grand Hall and Tykes Restaurant.

In winning the VisitYork awards, judges said that Sandburn Hall is: “A hotel with a clear identity and truly living its values. Being family owned and independent is a real point of difference which gives the opportunity to create a unique atmosphere. Working with a number of local suppliers and attractions speaks to a commitment to the Yorkshire hospitality community.”

As one of 52 finalists across 16 categories whittled down from 1,800 regional hospitality venues in the national VisitEngland awards, Sandburn Hall is now up against Mallory Court Hotel & Spa and Titanic Hotel Liverpool, with the winner due to be announced at the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange on 4 June.

James Hogg, director of Sandburn Hall, said: “To say we are pleased would be an understatement, this is such an affirmation of everything our team has done at Sandburn Hall over more than 20 years and reflects the loyalty of our customers and the faith they put in us each and every time they visit.

“By putting a real emphasis on a high quality offering and competitive pricing with a friendly and knowledgeable and professional service Sandburn Hall has been able to thrive and grow. I think that being a hands-on, family owned business in the large hotel sector also makes us stand out.

“Winning the VisitYork award is a wonderful accolade – bring on the VisitEngland finals!”

This recognition for Sandburn Hall follows the redesign and relaunch of Tykes Restaurant, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, and the installation of 1,000 solar panels generating approximately half of the site’s electricity consumption, working with Yorkshire-based Zenergy Solar.
