Osteria Angelina – the new pasta and grill restaurant from the Angelina, Dalston team – will officially open in Norton Folgate on 20th May. The restaurant has also revealed some of the key dishes that will feature on the menu as well as the opportunity to buy a limited number of exclusive pre-opening vouchers.

Ahead of the launch, those eager to try Osteria Angelina can buy pre-opening vouchers for discounted dining in the opening months. Guests can purchase vouchers with a redemption value of up to twice their purchase price. All those purchasing the pre-opening vouchers will also be entered into a draw to win an Osteria Angelina Passport allowing them to dine for free at the restaurant for a whole year.

The new restaurant sees founders Joshua Owens-Baigler, Amar Takharand Laura Horta take on a bigger converted warehouse space on the border of Spitalfields, Shoreditch and the City. Osteria Angelina will embrace the traditional osteria style of northern Italy, with a more relaxed dining experience, larger à la carte dishes and a faster pace.

Executive chef Usman Haiderhas been with the Angelina team for five years and has worked with founder Joshua to create the new restaurant’s relaxed a’la carte offering which focuses on fresh pastas with a Japanese twist, as well as Italian and Japanese inspired ‘big cut’ Binchotan grill dishes.

Pasta making will be at the forefront of the show with guests able to watch the chefs in the kitchen and a pastaio at work in a glass walled section of the dining room.

A selection of eight fresh pastas will change regularly and feature dishes such as:

  • Rigatoni Tomato & Kosho
  • Tortelloni, Truffle & Kombu
  • Tagliolini with Mentaiko

The focal point of the open kitchen will be the Binchotan fired grills, cooking big grill cuts over fire. Some examples for sharing include:

  • Skate Wing on the Bone with Sea Urchin Butter
  • Duck Crown Kabayaki
  • Aged Porterhouse brushed with Tare

Crudi will be another highlight on the menu sitting alongside other Antipasti and Fritti small plates. Crudo dishes on the menu include:

  • Hamachi Sashimi, Truffle Soy Furikake
  • Kombu cured Bream & Smoked Butter
  • Bluefin tuna Chu-Toro, Ponzu &  Rhubarb

The wine list features more than 300 Italian wines focusing on Italy’s diverse landscape of unheralded indigenous varieties with unique historic stories. There will also be a selection of Sakecurated by London Sake expert Masayo Nuttall. Cocktails will take a creative path similar to the food with flavours and ingredients from Italy and Japan. Guests can expect to find one of London’s most extensive grappa lists and a range of Japanese whiskies.

The ground floor 75-cover restaurant is centred around a large open kitchen and bar, with a mix of chef counter and table seating. The restaurant’s comfortable, monochromatic design has been overseen by Anna Owens Designs who has also created the restaurant’s bespoke tableware and furniture. The building itself is an expertly renovated Victorian warehouse, with all original features retained, and a 4-metre-high ceiling. On the lower ground floor a private dining room will seat up to 18.

Osteria Angelina will open on 20th May. Bookings are now open at the link here.
