We are overcomplicating AI in business. Too often it is treated as an abstract and overwhelming topic best left to the technical and data teams to solve.

When, in reality, for ~$20/user/month we can be transforming our careers, teams and companies.

Regardless of your profession or title, there are 5 simple steps you can take to immediately drive your efficiency, productivity, creativity, innovation and impact.

1) Pick your preferred chatbot (e.g. ChatGPT, Gemini) and use it everyday to help you think, create, understand, and reason. Always be practicing and experimenting with new use cases.

2) Learn how to talk to your chatbot (i.e. prompting). Pretend like it’s a genius-level intern who just needs clear goals and instructions—and maybe a few examples—to get started.

3) Build some OpenAI Custom GPTs or Google Gems to support tasks / projects that you regularly perform. Think about the things you do that are repetitive, data-driven, and / or generative, and then create AI tools to help. You can build them in minutes. No coding ability needed.

4) Explore Google’s NotebookLM for research, learning and knowledge sharing projects.

5) Build Deep Research (from OpenAI or Google) into your researching and planning workflows. If you haven’t explored Deep Research yet, it will absolutely alter your understanding of what these AI models are capable of, and change your perspective on the future of work.

If you do these 5 things you will be ahead of 95%+ of your peers.

I do a lot of public speaking. I constantly poll the rooms for how many people have ever built a Custom GPT, tried NotebookLM or tested Deep Research. It is consistently less than 5% of the room.

With AI you can just do things. Be curious and willing to experiment, and you will accelerate your own understanding and growth.
