Located in one of Scandinavia’s largest ski areas, the hotel will feature 120 rooms, 16 apartments, and conference facilities, alongside a wellness area with a sauna, gym, and pool. Guests will benefit from ski-in, ski-out access, with the property strategically positioned between the Tandådalen and Hundfjället ski slopes.

A long-term lease agreement has been signed between Scandic and  the property owner Lima Besparingsskog in order to establish the hotel in Sälen. The collaboration with Lima Besparingsskog is expected to have positive economic impacts on the region, including job creation and an increase in Sälen’s tourism profile.

The hotel will be constructed in a classic alpine style with a wooden façade and balconies offering views of the surrounding mountain landscape. A new ski lift will also be installed to facilitate easy access between the hotel and ski area.

Moreover, Scandic Hotels has recently expanded its presence in Sweden with the recent opening of Scandic Go Sankt Eriksgatan 20 in Stockholm. Moreover, an extra element that confirms this expansion is the fact that the brand is planning two additional properties: Scandic Go Lilla Bommen in Gothenburg and Scandic Go Umeå, set to open in 2026. These new hotels will contribute to Scandic’s growth strategy, with a focus on sustainability and repurposing existing buildings.

We’re very happy to be able to welcome guests to our first Scandic hotel in the Swedish mountains. Our growth strategy is clear: we want to strengthen our position in the Nordic countries by expanding in attractive, new locations. Sälen is an established and popular destination with great demand from both Swedish, Nordic and international visitors, which we intend to leverage. We look forward to offering our guests an unforgettable experience in the heart of the Swedish mountains – Jens Mathiesen, President & CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.

Scandic’s expansion in the Swedish mountains follows the brand’s success with similar properties in Norway and Finland. The hotel will focus on sustainability, with operations certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. This includes the use of eco-labeled products, renewable electricity, and a commitment to reducing environmental impact.

We are very proud to have the opportunity to collaborate with Scandic on this unique hotel project, which we have developed together with the real estate advisor CBRE Sweden. This initiative creates more job opportunities and strengthens Sälen as a popular year-round tourist destination – Fredrik Eriksson, Property Manager at Lima Besparingsskog.

In line with Scandic’s sustainability efforts, the hotel will be certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. This certification ensures that the hotel’s operations will adhere to strict environmental standards, including using eco-labeled products and chemicals, 100% renewable electricity, and minimizing water consumption. The hotel will also eliminate single-use packaging, reduce food waste, and offer climate-friendly food options.
