The Westbourne guest house in Bowness-on-Windermere has been sold for an undisclosed sum, following an asking price of £1.14m.

Long-standing owners Andre and Susan Louis have retired locally after more than a decade running the business.

Built in 1888 as a gentleman’s residence, the Victorian property was later converted into guest accommodation and retains a number of period features. It includes nine ensuite bedrooms, a detached two-storey suite, private parking and additional space for owners or staff.

The new owners, Greg Murison and Angela Stephen, are relocating from Aberdeen. Murison previously worked in the offshore industry, while Stephen has a background in hospitality.

In a statement, the couple said: “It’s a beautiful property in an incredible location, and we feel privileged to be stepping into a business that’s been so well cared for by Andre and Susan. We’re excited to continue their legacy and bring our own energy and ideas to this next chapter.”

Situated in a quiet location near Bowness village and Lake Windermere, the property is surrounded by woodland and fells, offering access to local amenities while maintaining a sense of seclusion.

Haydn Spedding, from Colliers’ hotels agency team, who handled the sale, said: “Andre and Susan have operated this guest house and established both a high turnover and very profitable business over a great number of years. The sale highlights the continuing demand for good quality, profitable and well-presented businesses in the Lake District.”
