Mews launches room key integration with digital wallet

Worldwide: Property management system Mews has launched a feature that enables digital room keys to be added into smartphone wallets. 

Building on its app-based digital room key, Mews now allows guests to access and store their hotel room keys within their smartphone’s wallet directly from web browser. 

Mews has collaborated with Vingcard, an ASSA ABLOY company, to develop the new feature. It will be available to all properties with compatible door locks. 

German hotel group Hey Lou HOTELS is the first Mews customer to roll out the wallet-based digital keys.

Linus Bihn, head of digital processes and customer journey at Hey Lou HOTELS, said: “The wallet keys fit perfectly with our commitment to making hotel stays as uncomplicated, digital, and personalised as possible. With the wallet key, they can open their room as intuitively as scanning a concert ticket. The key integrates seamlessly into our 360° digital guest journey.”

Matt Welle, CEO of Mews, added:“Travellers are telling us exactly what they want from their hotel experience: convenience, speed, and a room that feels truly theirs the moment they arrive. Our research shows that more than a third of guests now consider keyless entry essential to a perfect hotel stay – and 70 per cent would skip the front desk queue entirely if they could.
