After almost 20 years as a cornerstone of the Shoreditch scene, the first hotel in The Hoxton series is set for a fresh new look. As the brand has evolved and expanded, so too has the design and feel of a Hox: each property takes cues from its surrounding neighbourhoods, but there’s an intangible thread that runs through the series, creating an experience that is distinctly Hox. The Shoreditch refresh will celebrate and elevate the original and much-loved features of the property, while bringing that characteristic homey, layered and design-led Hox character even further to the fore. Alongside the reimagined design identity, led by Ennismore’s in-house design team at AIME Studios, comes a brand new restaurant concept in the form of Il Bambini Club, taking the baton from Hoxton Grill (the first ever Hox restaurant) and bringing the warmth of Italian hospitality to the lobby, with existing Peruvian hotspot Llama Inn still calling the hotel rooftop home. The hotel refresh will be ongoing through to the end of the year, with the full hotel ready to reveal its new look by January 2026.

Lobby

A relaxed and welcoming lobby is a staple of any Hox, and Shoreditch did it first. The new look lobby retains a cosy feel and holds onto timeless, standout features like stone fireplaces, a showstopping circular chandelier and floor to ceiling windows to flood the space with daylight. Stand-out textiles and timbers are motifs of the lobby scheme, paying homage to trades once based in Shoreditch, from silk weaving to woodworking. Galvanised metals, exposed conduit and simple light forms are reminiscent of a warehouse environment and nod to the industrial history of the area, while perfectly contrasting more polished features like sculptural seating, mood lighting and lush greenery. A bold use of colour throughout nods to the graffiti-strewn streets and flyposting that is so synonymous with the area, while a mix of materials like boucle upholstery, ceramic tiling and sheer drapery create a tactile and inviting atmosphere. By day, the lobby remains the go-to spot for casual coffees and remote working in Shoreditch; by night, it shifts into a lively hangout for unwinding with a drink as the sun sets.

Rooms

Accompanying existing Shoebox, Cosy and Roomy room types will be a new Cosy Up category (featuring a bar lounge area for leisure travel), and the 210 rooms will now epitomise retro charm with a strong shot of playful modernity, with some rooms able to interconnect for group stays with pals or travelling with kids. While features like herringbone parquet flooring, oversized circular mirrors and natural wood fixtures that regulars will know and love remain, they will now be complemented with a palette of muted blues, earthy greens and warm amber upholstery. High-shine chrome metals, rounded mint-green bedside tables and conical frosted light fixtures give

a retro-futurism feel – even evoking shades of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The overall effect is softened with features like terrazzo marbles, tan leathers and woven rugs, with scalloped headboards also taking centre stage in many rooms. Bathrooms will come in two styles: in some, light grey and rich navy tiling and fluted glass is paired again with terrazzo and chrome finishes, while others go for mottled, forest green marble with glossy brown tiles, mint detailing and hammered glass, balancing elegance with playfulness.

The Apartment

The new-look Apartment meeting and events space also embraces touches of retro-futurism offset with mid century modern overtones. The fresh design embraces unexpected textures, with graphic prints injecting personality and geometric patterns juxtaposing rounded shapes throughout, while low-slung sofas and soft curves create an intimate, lived-in feel; in short, it’s intentional eclecticism at its best. As ever, the space comprises seven private rooms set around a communal Pantry area and can be hired individually or collectively to host everything from presentations and parties to press days, private dinners and even weddings.

Il Bambini Club

New to town is Il Bambini Club, a lively all-day Italian dining spot with a dose of la dolce vita charm. Taking over the ground floor restaurant in Shoreditch, Il Bambini Club promises a vibrant escape filled with fresh pasta, signature pizzas and plenty of spritzes, all served in a buzzy, welcoming setting that feels equal parts trattoria and Italian holiday. Whether popping in for a long, lazy lunch, pre-dinner negronis or a late-night bite with friends, the experience is designed to be joyful and generous from morning to midnight. It’s aperitivo hour, East London-style.

Llama Inn

Llama Inn is Shoreditch’s rooftop modern Peruvian hotspot, serving up uninterrupted city views, killer cocktails and an impressive natural wine list. The menu draws inspiration from Chef Erik Ramirez’s Peruvian American background, with dishes founded in the diverse culinary heritage of Peru and seen through a New York lens, where the concept was born in 2015. Unbound by tradition, this dual perspective results in a unique style, offering a broad, modern take on Peruvian food and a cocktail list homing in on Pisco and Latin American spirits.

Hox Flea

As part of the refresh and this year’s Shoreditch Design Triangle, on Sunday 14 September, brand fans will have a chance to take home a piece of the original Hox home with them at Hox Flea. Guests will be able to browse and buy pre-loved pieces from the hotel, including mid-century chairs, plush armchairs, statement lighting and a host of unique, one-off finds you won’t spot anywhere else. Best of all, all proceeds from the sale will be donated to Shelter From The Storm, an independent homeless shelter offering free beds, meals and vital support to those in need.
