Hotel key cards are getting a sustainable makeover. At recent industry gatherings in Sydney and Pattaya, GCSTIMES introduced a line ofsustainable key cards made from materials as varied as wood, cornstarch-based PLA, and plant-based leather.
Each option brings a different look and feel. Wooden cards, slightly thicker than plastic, can be engraved for a natural, premium touch. PLA cards mimic the durability and slimness of traditional PVC while cutting down on carbon impact. Plant-based leather cards target luxury hotels seeking a balance between sustainability and elegance.
What sets the products apart, beyond material innovation, is independent verification: the cards are ISO 14068 Carbon Neutrality Claim audited and certified by SGS, ensuring hotels can back up their sustainability claims with confidence.
The launch was showcased at two major events, the NoVacancy Hotel + Accommodation Expo in Australia and the Wyndham SEAPR General Managers Conference in Thailand, where GCSTIMES staff split across continents to engage with hoteliers about the role of greener materials in everyday operations.
Industry observers noted strong interest in solutions that merge design, function, and environmental responsibility. As sustainability becomes a core guest expectation rather than a bonus, initiatives like GCSTIMES’ cards suggest the humble key card could be the next frontline in hospitality’s green transformation.
