RIU Hotels & Resorts marks a new milestone in its international expansion with the opening of its first property in Canada: the Riu Plaza Toronto. This newly built hotel has a 4-star rating with a total of 352 rooms. It is located in the heart of Toronto’s skyline, in the lively Entertainment District, one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods.

The project consists of two identical skyscrapers, each with 49 floors. The new RIU hotel occupies 23 floors of one of the towers, while the remainder of the building houses apartments. The façade integrates two different styles and materials: the brick base, which blends with the adjacent 18th-century heritage houses of historical value; and the glass upper section, which introduces a contemporary and modern element.

Inside, on the ground floor, is the lobby and lobby bar, where guests can enjoy snacks and drinks throughout the day in a bright and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant on the first floor, in addition to the previously mentioned lobby bar, offers every morning the extensive, signature breakfast buffet typical of RIU Plaza hotels, included in the room price.

The design of the hotel’s common areas is modern and innovative, true to the distinctive style of RIU’s urban line. The reception area combines light and dark tones, creating a sober atmosphere. Beige dominates the color palette, with matte chrome finishes contributing to a relaxed ambiance. There are also spaces in the lobby designed to provide privacy and to give guests a warm welcome upon arrival. Elegant, modern furnishings complement the hotel’s overall aesthetic.

Guests can take advantage of other hotel amenities, such as a fully equipped gym that is open 24 hours a day. The hotel also offers a meeting room for up to 40 people, a popular choice for those visiting Toronto for business purposes as well as for local corporate clients.

In addition to these facilities, the hotel stands out for its location at 30 Widmer Street, surrounded by major landmarks of Canada’s largest city and one of the country’s leading economic, cultural, and financial hubs. Notable attractions such as the Princess of Wales Theatre, David Pecaut Square, Rogers Centre Stadium, and the iconic CN Tower are all within walking distance. Excellent transport connections also make it an ideal base for both leisure and business travelers.

In line with RIU’s commitment to sustainability and within the framework of its Proudly Committed strategy, the hotel incorporates advanced energy-efficiency measures, such as combined heat and power systems that generate both electricity and thermal energy simultaneously, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Measures have also been implemented to save water and reduce waste.

This opening is a significant achievement for RIU, as Canada is one of the hotel chain’s key markets, particularly for destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America. Canadian travelers are familiar with and value the brand, and now for the first time can enjoy the RIU experience without leaving their own country.

The Riu Plaza Toronto thus becomes the twelfth property in RIU’s urban line, joining locations already operating in Panama, Guadalajara (Mexico), Madrid, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Berlin, London, and Dublin. RIU continues to focus on growth in major cities worldwide and is currently building its third hotel in New York.
