InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has expanded its footprint in Japan with the debut of InterContinental Sapporo.

Sapporo, located on Japan’s northernmost island, is known for its winter sports, distinctive cuisine and recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts. The hotel sits in the Nakajima Park area close to the Susukino entertainment district, providing guests with direct access to cultural and leisure attractions. Designed around InterContinental’s vision of connecting travelers to the essence of each destination, the hotel offers curated experiences supported by the brand’s concierge expertise.

Occupying the 9th through 14th floors of the Lilac Square complex, InterContinental Sapporo features 149 rooms including 13 suites, all positioned to capture views of the city, the park and the Toyohira River. Interiors reflect a mix of residential comfort and natural surroundings, drawing on Hokkaido’s colors and textures. The 9th-floor lobby lounge integrates greenery with a fireplace and outdoor terrace overlooking the park.

Dining venues include Sawaka, an omakase-style restaurant built around a Chef’s Choice course menu that combines Japanese aesthetics with global techniques. Methods such as charcoal grilling and low-temperature cooking are used to highlight both local and international ingredients. Guests can also opt for seating at the countertop where the energy of the kitchen shapes the experience. AuBlanc offers an all-day setting that blends the feel of a neighborhood bistro with gastronomic refinement, from breakfast to dinner and a bakery selection. Norva Lounge & Bar, with distinct fire and forest lounge areas, shifts from afternoon teas during the day to cocktails in the evening.

Amenities extend to a 20-metre indoor heated pool on the 9th floor with city views and a 24-hour fitness center. Club InterContinental occupies the top level, providing a private setting with breakfast, evening service and additional benefits including dedicated check-in.

With this opening, InterContinental Sapporo becomes part of a global network of more than 231 InterContinental hotels, including 10 across Japan. The property also strengthens IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle offerings in the country, alongside brands such as Six Senses, Kimpton, Vignette and Hotel Indigo, with Regent expected to debut in Japan in 2028.
