The pickleball eatertainment trend continues with the opening of Relish Food Hall& Pickleball in Louisville, Colorado. At 88,000-square feet and housing 21 pickleball courts, eight local food concepts, a coffee shop, and a bar, Relish is the largest indoor food hall and pickleball in the state.
“Relish was born from the idea that community grows through shared experience,” Tory Leggat, cofounder and general manager at Relish, said in a statement.
Relish Food Hall& Pickleball, which opened this summer, is housed in a former Sam’s Club and was designed by Swan Dive Design Studio. One of the biggest challenges for the design studio was to transform a large, box-shaped warehouse space into an eatertainment space with divided areas for eating, drinking, and playing. The venue also includes conference rooms, event spaces, and games on an outdoor patio.
The company ended up rotating the infrastructure by 45 degrees and creating a “layered” experience, so customers would start by seeing the check-in desk, without being overwhelmed by the larger space. The space is also insulated to cut down on ambient noise, and the rest of the design is inspired by the pickleball sport, with perforated pegboard walls, and patterns in the walls to mimic the shape and texture of the ball and paddle.
“Our design approach focused on breaking the scale of the original structure, introducing warmth, movement and playful materiality to foster connection,” Aleksandra Kaplan, partner at Swan Dive Design Studio, said in a statement. “We embraced the opportunity to create a space where people of all ages feel invited to linger, whether they’re grabbing a bite, playing a match, getting work done, or celebrating a special occasion.”
Dining options at Relish include ArepasCo, Salt & Vinegar (charcuterie and sandwiches), Magic Food Bus (bowls and sandwiches), Sabor y Salsa (tacos), Soupsmith, Lenin’s Pizza, Aces (ice cream and acai bowls), as well as Relish Coffee and the bar, which offers a variety of beer, wine, and cocktails.
Relish offers court reservations for individual games, as well as four tiers of monthly memberships that range from $70 a month to $240 a month and come with varying degrees of court access.
