Kimpton’s first hotel in Austria
IHG Hotels & Resorts and tristar Austria GmbH have signed the Kimpton Salzburg, part of a major redevelopment project led by Midstad.
The 119-room hotel will include 11 suites offering uninterrupted views of the Salzach River and the castle. Guests will have access to a fitness centre, wellness area with sauna and relaxation rooms, and versatile meeting spaces designed for both large and small events.
Located along Salzburg’s historic riverbanks, the hotel will benefit from direct access to transport routes and close proximity to the city’s cultural district, positioning it as a convenient base for both business and leisure travellers.
Strengthening the IHG–tristar partnership
The signing reflects the ongoing collaboration between IHG and tristar Hotels, which continue to expand across the DACH region.

IHG’s expansion continues across the DACH region
Set to open in mid-2028, Kimpton Salzburg will join 12 open Kimpton hotels in Europe and six more in development.
Across the DACH region, IHG now operates over 210 open hotels with 63 under development, including 14 properties in Austria under brands such as InterContinental, Hotel Indigo, voco, Ruby Hotels, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Garner.
The project demonstrates IHG’s strategy to strengthen its presence in key European destinations while adapting its lifestyle offerings to local market dynamics.
