A Parking Garage Transforms Into the Retro-Futuristic Limusina

Quality Branded—the team behind Quality Bistro, Zou Zou’s, and Twin Tails—has opened Limusina. The 215-seat, tri-level restaurant occupies a transformed parking garage in Midtown Manhattan.

Designed in collaboration with GRT Architects, the 5,000-square-foot space captures a sense of cinematic surrealism with a maximalist flair. (GRT previously partnered with Quality Branded on New York restaurants Don Angie, Bad Roman, and San Sabino as well.)

Limusina’s warm, luminous palette

Channeling a retro-futuristic spirit inspired by Blade Runner’s reinterpretation of the Ennis House and Bradbury Building, Limusina juxtaposes warm light, geometric patterns, and unexpected material contrasts.

At the main bar, abstract planes of peach, amber, and pale violet light play against honed marble slabs embedded with black limestone clasts that appear adrift in a white calcite field.

In the main dining room, naturally dyed sheer curtains filter light into an orange sherbet glow, complemented by monumental chandeliers and a bold black-and-white trapezoid marble floor.

Custom glass and lighting installations continue the exploration of texture and tone: a former loading dock becomes a private dining room glazed with violet bullions, while breezeblock walls, steel-framed glass, and lattice-like chandeliers layer rhythm and reflection throughout.

Surprises around every corner

Hidden moments abound. Behind an unmarked lightbox lies a secret dining room for 10; and beyond a faux-bois service bar, basalt-clad restrooms feature a graphic trim.

Step down a level, and the “pool” dining area emerges with glossy green finishes and a second private room wrapped in red-and-purple travertine.
