Following a full renovation, Luxury Family Hotels has reopened Woolley Grange, its beloved Jacobean manor house near Bath, England.

A new vision by StudioJill

Led by London design studio StudioJill, the transformation embraces a new-yet-nostalgic approach that balances tradition with modern comfort. The design draws on the manor’s history through earthy tones, rich textures, crewelwork, aged oak, and rustic finishes, creating interiors that feel both timeworn and timeless.

Throughout the hotel, cozy corners, worn flagstones, and whimsical touches of country eccentricity remain central to the Woolley Grange experience. Handcrafted furniture, layered fabrics, and playful details encourage relaxation and discovery, offering guests a sense of home steeped in history.

Reimagined spaces at Woolley Grange

All 25 rooms and suites have been thoughtfully redesigned alongside key public spaces, including the restaurant, drawing room, long room, afternoon tea lounge, private dining room, and the orangery.

The spa has been revitalized with two new treatment rooms, a sauna located by the indoor swimming pool, and an outdoor hot tub overlooking the gardens.

Younger guests can continue to enjoy the Woolley Bears Den children’s club, while tweens and teens have their own dedicated retreat, the Hen House, complete with a pool table and games.

Beloved features like the hotel’s vintage fairground rides and resident bear have been restored and reimagined, standing alongside new design elements and treasured heirlooms.

“As a design studio, we wanted to create a stronger sense of place, celebrating the inherent charm and natural patina of the building whilst layering in modern crafted pieces, pattern, and texture,” says Jill Higgins, founder of StudioJill. “Our approach unifies the old with the new to create a more holistic guest experience, mixing playful details with a relaxed, understated sense of luxury.”

In the months ahead, Woolley Grange will reveal the next phase of its transformation, including additional rooms in the Pavilion and Stone Cottage, plus enhancements to the cherished Walled Garden.
