Travel buyers view artificial intelligence as the leading trend shaping the future of hotel sourcing, according to a new report

Oct 29, 2025

A new BCD Travel survey finds that while most travel buyers see artificial intelligence and automation as the top forces shaping the future of travel sourcing, only a small fraction are currently using AI in their sourcing activities.

Key takeaways

  • AI seen as key trend: 61% of travel buyers say AI and automation will shape the future of travel sourcing — more than any other trend.
  • Low current adoption: Only 15% of respondents use AI to any extent in sourcing tasks such as RFPs, contracts, and supplier evaluation.
  • Growing interest: 42% are not yet using AI but are actively exploring options for implementation.
  • Other major trends: Multi-year supplier agreements (46%) and dynamic pricing (45%) are also seen as significant future drivers.
  • Top priority: Cost control and savings dominate sourcing goals, cited by 86% of buyers — far ahead of data quality, compliance, or supplier consolidation.
  • Pricing challenges: High costs and rate fluctuations remain the most pressing issues in the sourcing process.
