A new identity under the Sheraton brand
Located in Vienna’s diplomatic quarter within the historic former Imperial Printing House, the Hotel Savoyen Vienna will undergo a major renovation before reopening as a Sheraton. The property features 310 rooms, including 43 suites and 70 executive rooms, and will maintain its focus on spacious, functional hospitality.
The transition follows a long-term partnership between MHP Hotel AG and Mechelgasse 1 GmbH, the property’s owner. The franchise agreement with Marriott International ensures integration into one of the world’s most recognized premium hotel brands.
“We see great potential to further strengthen the market position of Hotel Savoyen through its repositioning as Sheraton Vienna. Vienna continues to benefit from strong international demand and dynamic tourism growth. We are grateful to Midstad for their trust and look forward to a successful collaboration.” – Jörg Frehse, CEO, MHP Hotel AG
In parallel with this development, Marriott is strengthening its presence in the DACH region with the upcoming openings of two Four Points Flex by Sheraton properties in Östringen and Koblenz.
Focus on business and conference travel
After its redesign, the Sheraton Vienna will target primarily business and conference guests, anchored by its 1,000-square-metre ballroom, one of the largest hotel conference venues in the city. The modernization aims to enhance the property’s appeal for international congresses and major corporate events.
The architectural and interior design will be led by BWM Designers & Architects in Vienna, with IBCOL Real Estate supporting MHP on the project implementation side.
“With MHP, we have found an experienced partner who will further develop the site’s positioning with a clear and long-term vision” stated Kevin Meyer, Managing Director of Midstad, the asset’s property management company.
Strengthening MHP’s footprint in Austria
The upcoming Sheraton Vienna reinforces MHP’s presence in the Austrian capital, where the company already operates Le Méridien Vienna and MOOONS Vienna. The group currently manages eleven hotels under international brands such as JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, and Conrad, across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
For the current fiscal year, MHP Hotel AG expects revenue of around €180 million. The addition of Sheraton Vienna marks a strategic milestone in its ambition to expand its premium hotel portfolio in Central Europe.
