A large-scale project in Oxfordshire

Puy du Fou has submitted a planning application to the Cherwell District Council to build a theme park in Bicester, Oxfordshire. Representing an investment of €700 million over ten years, the project will include four themed villages, thirteen shows, and three hotels.

The phased opening is planned for 2029. Spread over 150 landscaped hectares, the site will feature 20,000 trees, 5 kilometers of hedgerows, and 16 hectares of meadows.

“Great Britain has such a rich, colorful, and fascinating history, and the site we have chosen near Bicester is the perfect place to create a world-class destination that brings that history to life.” – Olivier Strebelle, CEO, Puy du Fou International

Following the successful model of Puy du Fou España in Toledo, the British park will begin with a large-scale night show before expanding into additional attractions. The productions will draw on key moments in British history, from Roman times to the Second World War, including Norman conquests and the coronation of Athelstan.

Local impact and regional development

The future park is expected to employ around 2,000 people and generate up to 6,000 indirect jobs, attracting 1.5 million annual visitors and generating an estimated €500 million in local economic activity.

Located near the M40 motorway and Bicester railway station, the park will be easily accessible from London, less than an hour away. The project will sit within a growing regional tourism cluster, as Universal also plans to open a new entertainment complex nearby in Bedford.

“This region is a natural choice for Puy du Fou, thanks to its rich history, culture, and landscapes” the company stated.

An expanding international strategy

Since its founding in Vendée, France, in 1989, Puy du Fou has expanded steadily through new concepts and destinations.

“For over 45 years, Puy du Fou has been a global reference in live entertainment rooted in history and culture. DOther projects are underway, with the ambition of operating four Puy du Fou parks by 2030 and bringing this artistic vision to audiences around the world” the group declared.

In parallel, the group is finalizing Le Grand Tour, an immersive experience aboard a Belle Époque-style train, and developing a new show at Efteling Park in the Netherlands, which has recorded strong attendance growth in recent years, ranking among the most visited theme parks in Europe.

These initiatives reflect a clear ambition to strengthen Puy du Fou’s international presence while maintaining its cultural heritage and creative identity.
