UN Tourism has further strengthened the capacity of its Members across Asia and the Pacific to produce reliable, integrated, and policy-relevant tourism data.

The Regional Workshop on Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism in Asia and the Pacific (Bandar Seri Begawan, 18–20 November 2025), brought together more than 100 participants from 11 UN Tourism Member States. Hosted by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism of Brunei Darussalam, the three days provided a platform to share experiences and learn practical approaches to measuring the sustainability of tourism. Delegates represented National Tourism Authorities, National Statistics Offices, and other key institutions, alongside international experts.

The event combined high-level dialogue with technical and participatory sessions addressing the economic, social, and environmental dimensions of tourism sustainability. Participants explored the application of the Statistical Framework for Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism (MST) and related tools, including the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) and the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA).

Through case studies and exercises, participants examined ways to strengthen institutional coordination between tourism and statistics authorities, improve tourism data governance, and use integrated information systems for evidence-based policymaking and destination management. The workshop featured discussions on measuring tourism employment, host community perceptions, and tourism’s impacts in the environment.
