Marriott International has agreed with V&A Waterfront Holdings to open an EDITION-branded hotel at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, with a planned launch in 2026.

According to the companies, the hotel is expected to feature dining venues including a rooftop bar, alongside a spa, swimming pool, and meeting and events facilities. The development is also set to include a series of shared social spaces intended to reflect Cape Town’s cultural and historical character.
Plans also include six private homes, to be known as The Residences at The Cape Town EDITION, which would be developed as part of the same project.
The building is to be designed by Shanghai-based architecture firm Neri and Hu, working with Cape Town-based StudioMAS. The development will sit at the edge of the Granger Bay precinct within the V&A Waterfront, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and the city bowl, with views of landmarks including Table Mountain, Lion’s Head and Signal Hill.
The V&A Waterfront is one of the busiest visitor destinations in Africa and includes a working harbour, retail and dining facilities, event spaces and marina infrastructure.
Karim Cheltout, senior vice-president for development in the Middle East and Africa at Marriott International, said: “The signing of our first EDITION Hotel in Africa marks a significant milestone for the company’s growth strategy in the continent. Cape Town is a city that embodies creativity, diversity, and a dynamic spirit.”
David Green, chief executive of the V&A Waterfront, added: “We are excited to be developing this architecturally stunning new building which will mark the launch of EDITION Hotels in Africa.”
Marriott has been expanding its presence across Africa in recent years, with a focus on luxury and lifestyle brands in major tourism and business centres. The EDITION brand, launched in partnership with hotelier Ian Schrager, operates properties in cities including London, New York, Tokyo and Dubai.
