Milan’s luxury hotel scene is set to get a chic new addition. Rocco Forte Hotels has unveiled plans for its second property in the city, The Carlton Milan. The hotel is slated to open doors this summer, after the existing hotel building completes a full refurbishment.
The project is led by Rocco Forte’s Director of Design Olga Polizzi, in collaboration with interior designers Paolo Moschino and Philip Vergeylen. The hotel will feature approximately 70 rooms and suites, a restaurant and lounge bar, wellness center with a gym and spa, along with a rooftop bar offering panoramic views of the city.
“Milan is one of the world’s most dynamic and design-centric destinations, a creative and vigorous city. We have great confidence in Milan’s future and the many international events and visitors it welcomes every year,” said Sir Rocco Forte, founder and president of Rocco Forte Hotels. “We are thrilled to confront this extraordinary city and bring our philosophy of luxury and quality here.”
The Carlton Milan marks the group’s second location in Milan, following the opening of Rocco Forte House Milan in 2024, as well as the group’s 10th property in Italy. This milestone cements Rocco Forte Hotels as one of the leading luxury operators in the country.
London-based Rocco Forte is set to open more properties across Italy within the next three years. As part of its wider expansion strategy, the group has reportedly signed a hotel in Dubai and is looking to venture into Spain and the U.S. PIF, the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia, acquired a 49% stake in Rocco Forte in late 2023. While Rocco Forte did not disclose the official value of the transaction, The Financial Times valued the deal at $1.8 billion, including debt.
Founded by Sir Rocco Forte and his sister, Olga Polizzi, in 1996, the group operates 14 properties across Europe, including Hotel Savoy, Florence; The Balmoral, Edinburgh; Brown’s Hotel, London; The Charles Hotel, Munich; Hotel de Rome, Berlin; and Hotel de Russie in Rome, which was recognized by HOTELS Magazine as the top hotel in the city in its inaugural “25×25 Top Hotels of the World.”
