When Roberto Levinson moved to New York City, he noticed a lack of restaurants offering authentic Mexican breakfast options and knew he had to fix that. He grew up in Monterrey, Mexico, where breakfast is more than just a meal; it’s an opportunity for meaningful family time and sharing dishes rich in flavor and culture.
Levinson chose the name “Ánimo!,” a Spanish term of encouragement and vitality, often used to motivate and inspire others during difficult times, and set to work to bring his vision to life.
Situated on 2nd Avenue and 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan, Ánimo! brings a taste of Mexico to the busy neighborhood. The 1,100 square-foot interior seats 28, and is streaked with sunshine during breakfast and lunch service from its corner-of-the-block location. Warm coffee scents waft from the espresso bar and plates of authentic Mexican breakfast and lunch dishes leave trails of steam as servers walk them to their tables.
Levinson’s vision of a homey atmosphere comes to life in a way that showcases the Mexican tradition of starting the day off right with a hearty breakfast.Ánimo!’s offerings include Hot Cakes with Glorias, Chilaquiles Rojos, Taco Huevo con Barbacoa, and Torta Al Pastor. With a full espresso bar, Ánimo! serves all kinds of coffee beverages, but features signature drinks like the Mexican Vanilla Latte, Horchata Latte, Café de Olla, and traditional Mexican Hot Chocolate.

Since opening in October 2024, Ánimo! has seen much success and has plans for expansion. While the team searches for the perfect spot for a second location, they also offer catering, and will soon offer their new dinner menu, Noches de Ánimo!, starting March 21.
