The mountains are winning you over
Visitor numbers in the French mountains remain stable compared with last year, although they vary from week to week due to the school calendar, explain the ANMSM and Atout France. The second week is one of the busiest, with holidaymakers from zones B and C juxtaposed, while only zone A hits the slopes during a quieter final week.
However, French winter sports resorts did not welcome only French visitors. In fact, the international clientele showed a slight increase (+0.3%), with the British (-0.3%), Belgians (-3.9%) and Dutch (+4.2%) on the podium. Scandinavian customers (+7.2%) are also very much in evidence this year, alongside Germans (+2.8%).
“The fairly favourable weather conditions, with good overall snow cover, helped to boost visitor numbers to the resorts over the winter holidays. These good results confirm the attractiveness of the mountains […] Maintaining the four-week winter holidays is essential, even if the system is imperfect, in order to facilitate access to mountain resorts and avoid periods of excessively high visitor numbers for certain resorts”. – Jean-Luc Boch, President of the ANMSM
