Meliá Hotels International and Summum Hotel Group have announced a new partnership to revitalize high-value tourism in the Costa Brava. This collaboration focuses on transforming the existing Etuu Begur Hotel into a luxurious, premium retreat. Set to join Meliá’s Affiliated by Meliá portfolio, the hotel will be rebranded as Meliá Begur after a comprehensive renovation and expansion scheduled to be completed in 2026.

A strategic transformation in Begur

Located in the Empordà region of Girona, Meliá Begur will sit in the heart of Begur’s old town, close to the Mediterranean’s beaches and coves, including Platja Fonda, Cala de Malaret, and the Fornells area. This prime location offers visitors a calm environment, perfect for both leisure and business travelers. The transformation of the hotel, owned by the AX Partners private equity fund, will expand its current 42 rooms to 65, offering guests more space and luxury.

A premium experience on the Costa Brava

Following its renovation, Meliá Begur will embody the essence of the Meliá Hotels & Resorts brand, combining contemporary style with warm hospitality. The property will feature a range of amenities, including multiple dining options, a swimming pool, a spa, a gym, and meeting rooms. This diverse offering ensures that Meliá Begur will be a versatile destination for both business events and luxury vacations.

“This new project reinforces our firm commitment to managing hotels in unique destinations, always with a personalized and demanding vision of excellence. With Hotel Eetu Begur, the five hotels in the alliance with Meliá now represent a total of five, consolidating our strategic collaboration with the group and reaffirming our commitment to quality, sustainable tourism with its own identity.” – Javier Vich, CEO of Summum Hotel Group

Strengthening the partnership between Meliá and Summum

This new project further solidifies the growing partnership between Meliá and Summum Hotel Group, marking their fifth joint initiative. As both companies focus on the expansion of luxury and premium hotels in Spain, the Costa Brava, and specifically Begur, represents a growing market for high-end tourism. With demand for exclusive accommodations and personalized services on the rise, Meliá and Summum aim to meet this demand by offering a high-quality tourism experience.

“We are committed to adding value to unique assets, small hotel gems located in the best locations. Projects that excite our investors and society, that contribute to quality tourism, and with which we can provide attractive sustained returns with low risk. Our goal is to be the benchmark investment fund for private investors by investing in iconic hotel assets in the Spanish Mediterranean.” – Aleix Recasens, founding partner of AX Partners

A commitment to sustainable tourism development

Meliá Hotels International reaffirms its dedication to sustainable tourism development with this new project, further strengthening its presence in Catalonia, where it already operates sixteen hotels. The transformation of the Etuu Begur Hotel into Meliá Begur aligns with Meliá’s vision for high-quality, sustainable tourism in Spain’s most sought-after destinations. For Summum Hotel Group, the addition of Meliá Begur to its portfolio marks an important step in expanding its position in the luxury and premium hotel segment in Spain.
