The Paris-based Big Mamma Group is expanding its UK footprint with a new Circolo Popolare restaurant, set to open in Manchester in June 2025.
Big Mamma Group has announced its latest UK project: the opening of Circolo Popolare in Manchester, marking its first location in northern England. The Italian restaurant, that comes after the recent opening of the Big Mamma restaurant in London, will be located at No. 1 St Michael’s, part of the city’s new mixed-use development in Deansgate. The launch follows the group’s expansion in Birmingham with La Bellezza and adds to its existing UK portfolio, including Gloria, Carlotta, Ave Mario, and Jacuzzi in London.
The Manchester restaurant will offer a two-level layout. The ground floor will evoke a courtyard atmosphere with extensive use of greenery, while the upper level will feature a more intimate design, including alcoves and an open kitchen. Decorative elements will include a ceiling covered in eucalyptus and a traditional Italian-style wishing well.
Circolo Popolare Manchester will be inspired by Sardinian outdoor celebrations and will accommodate approximately 230 guests. The concept will include several visual elements familiar from other Big Mamma properties, while introducing new features adapted to the Manchester location.
Head chef Alfonso Esposito, originally from Campania, is developing a menu that will include new items alongside dishes common to the brand such as Neapolitan pizza, burrata, and pistachio tiramisu. Big Mamma’s co-founders, Victor Lugger and Tigrane Seydoux, indicated that the Manchester menu will differ from the London offering, with potential influences from other international Circolo locations.
The opening date is scheduled for June 2025, with the exact launch day to be confirmed.
