The award-winning hotel introduces the luxury Bath House & Owlets cottages on The Basford Estate
The Tawny, synonymous with its romantic hotel stays, is growing its one-of-a-kind countryside experience with the launch of new self-catering properties on its Basford Estate – a growing destination for design-focused group stays and family getaways.
Introducing Bath House, the latest – and most spectacular – addition to The Tawny’s Fledglings – luxury serviced holiday homes, offering the freedom of self-catering, without compromising on The Tawny’s signature style, service, and attention to detail.
Additionally on the expansive Basford Estate, the Owlets, a charming set of cottages, are set to open later this year.
These launches mark a significant evolution of The Tawny, which continues to beguile guests with its unique deconstructed design, sumptuous interiors and proactive attitude towards sustainability. All The Tawny’s Fledglings and Owlets use biomass energy, a renewable energy type which utilises the estate’s sustainable organic matter to fuel these reimagined properties.
Just a stone’s throw from the Consall Estate – where The Tawny’s Wingspan Collection of treehouses, boathouses, and shepherd’s huts have become known for couples’ getaways – the Basford Estate offers a fresh twist. Here, self-catering doesn’t mean self-service: guests enjoy privacy alongside tailored experiences, hotel concierge services, and elevated design – ideal for reunions, celebrations, or multi-generational escapes.
Now Open – May 2025
A beautiful new escape on Basford Estate’s picture-perfect parkland, Bath House is a Grade II listed character property. Built in the 19th century in the style of a castle, it boasts an outdoor heated pool with swim jet, a traditional sauna steam room, a chill box for cold water immersion, a Big Green Egg BBQ (perfect for a private chef), with views across rolling hills, a private lake and cascades. It’s a haven for extended families, milestone moments, or reunions done right.
Lovingly restored, Louise Platt Interiors has once again worked her magic to preserve the original features while injecting warmth, colour and plenty of personality into this whimsical Victorian folly. Stepping inside, there’s rich reds, deep greens, and bold blues anchored by a show-stopping kitchen in Little Greene’s Córdoba with Foundry Green brick tiles and a traditional black range cooker – ideal for home-cooking or a catered feast. Why not make an evening of it, with your very own bar tender shaking up cocktails, too?
The living room and bar area are painted in the soothing tones of Farrow & Ball’s Treron, with a chic checkerboard limestone floor and thoughtfully chosen lighting, while each of the five ensuite bedrooms are uniquely designed with charming features.
With a brilliant choice of activities that can be arranged by the hotel, guests can wake up to a private morning yoga session or water aerobics; try their hand at a foraging adventure or foodie masterclass, or simply kick back and relax with a choice of luxury hampers, from hearty breakfasts and BBQ favourites to Sunday Roasts and Movie Nights.
OWLETS
Launching winter 2025
The new ‘Owlets’ are set to launch later this year, a collection of five beautifully restored cottages, set within the grounds of the Basford Estate. Ranging from a cosy one-bedroom retreat to a spacious four-bedroom home, these charming properties cater to various group sizes, ensuring guests can easily find their ideal fit.
Arranged around a shared courtyard, each cottage will be individually designed. Guests can enjoy a number of outdoor facilities and experiences currently in the planning stages.
The Consall Estate and the Basford Estate are just a 10-minute drive apart, or a 90-minute walk through a particularly beautiful part of Staffordshire’s Churnet Valley.
There are endless opportunities for exploration; both estates border the RSPB Consall Woods Nature Park which stretches over 479 acres, a heritage steam train runs alongside the estates and the River Churnet and Caldon Canal provide picturesque waterways right on the doorstep.
