US: Lifestyle luxury brand Viceroy Hotels & Resorts will launch The Harriman in June 2026, a new-build Idaho hotel and residence resort.
Located in Ketchum, at the southeast corner of Main Street and River Street East near the Bald Mountain’s River Run base, The Harriman will offer 73 hotel rooms and 12 single-level penthouse residences for sale.
Amenities include a full-service spa featuring a fitness centre, treatment rooms, indoor thermal pool, cold plunge, sauna, steam rooms, observatory and outdoor terrace bar. The resort will also have a restaurant and bar, café, ski concierge, a seasonal terrace and bar, as well as a meeting and event space.
The Harriman is named after W. Averill Harriman, the chairman of the Union Pacific Railroad, who helped create the Sun Valley Resort in 1936. Harriman sought to create a resort in the US centred around European-style winter sports and accessible by Union Pacific’s national rail network.
Majority owner of The Harriman, Andrew Blank, said: “The Harriman is a tribute to Sun Valley’s past, but it’s also shaping its future. We want to honour this place’s history while creating something lasting for generations to come. This project is deeply personal for me. My family has been connected to Sun Valley for over 50 years, and The Harriman is a celebration of Mr. Harriman’s legacy and the Wood River Valley.”
Jack Bariteau, real estate developer and managing member of the development company, said: “The Harriman has been a vision of mine for several decades, and bringing it to life with Viceroy is an incredible milestone. Sun Valley has long deserved a destination that reflects its authentic heritage and natural beauty, and Viceroy’s involvement ensures this will be delivered at the highest level.”
Mark Keiser, president of development at Viceroy, added: “Sun Valley is synonymous with American alpine heritage, and we are honoured to celebrate that legacy through the Viceroy lens. This project exemplifies modern luxury defined by deep connection to place, thoughtful design, and immersive experiences.”
The design team for The Harriman includes John Davis of Hornberger+Worstell, Mark de Reus and Chris Strahle of de Reus Architects, and Fatima Silva of FDG Design Group.
