Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno – the first five-star property in Priorat, Catalonia’s famed wine region – has won the Restorations, Transformations + Conversions category at the 21st Hospitality Design Awards. Selected from nearly 900 international entries, the hotel was honoured at a ceremony earlier this month at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Designed by the award-winning Astet Studio and C97 Arquitectes I Associats, the property blends modern luxury with regional heritage to merge seamlessly with the surrounding vineyards. Each of the 24 spacious suites is designed to enhance tranquillity, with neutral tones, sweeping views of vineyards or surrounding vineyards, and natural materials like oak, stucco, and rust-coloured marble, while the Presidential Bruno’s Suite features a private dining area, Roman bath, walk-in dressing room, and access through one of the estate’s original arched entrances.
The hotel consists of two main buildings, Masía and the Atelier, which feature minimalist woods, cream marbles, and leather. The spa, set in the estate’s original wine press, offers vinotherapy treatments, honouring Priorat’s winemaking tradition.
The property’s restaurant and bar channel the spirit of a Mediterranean wine cellar, with sleek metal accents and backlit bottle displays. The library, filled with oak bookshelves and warm-toned lighting, features rich burgundy details that subtly nod to Priorat’s wines. At the heart of the property is the Atheneum, a social hub for gatherings and events, centred around a fireplace flanked by glass arches and a large communal table.
Opened in May 2023, Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno makes some of Spain’s best wines more accessible than ever as a property steeped in history, culture, and surrounded by mountains, sprawling vineyards, and quaint hilltop villages. This newest property in The Stein Group portfolio has also been accepted into the prestigious Relais and Chateaux affiliation.
