Capella Hotels and Resorts will make its European debut in 2027 with the opening of Capella Florence, which will be located near Piazza della Libertà and the Duomo, occupying a restored complex of former convents on Via San Gallo in the center of the city.

Dating back to the 12th century, the complex previously housed the convents of Sant’Agata, San Clemente and Santa Lucia di Camporeggi; it also served as a military hospital and was once home to artist Arcangela Paladini.

The 89-key property will include 33 suites, 56 guestrooms and 10 residences. The project is being developed in collaboration with Italian architecture firms RPA and De Vita & Schulze, with interiors designed by French studio Liaigre.

“Capella Florence represents a natural evolution of our vision, bringing the Capella experience to a city where culture, history and artistry are deeply ingrained in everyday life,” said Cristiano Rinaldi, president, Capella Hotel Group. “In a destination as rich and layered as Florence, we are honored to collaborate with a world-renowned architect and interior designer who share our dedication to crafting spaces that respect local history while creating meaningful connections for today’s luxury traveler. It is a privilege to be entrusted with the renewal of this historic part of Florence’s cultural and communal heritage.”

The hotel will feature two restaurants, one offering Tuscan cuisine and the other focused on Japanese sushi omakase. A rooftop bar, subterranean speakeasy wine vault and Capella’s signature Living Room will also be included.

In addition, Capella Florence will have a separate Clubhouse with a 600-square-meter spa with a hydro pool, a fitness center and a café, and also an indoor amphitheater reflecting the site’s 800-year history.

The opening builds on Capella’s presence in Asia and the Pacific and marks a new phase of the group’s international growth strategy.
