Statement
Sustainability

HOTREC has joined forces with Euro Coop, Independent Retail Europe and RURALTOUR to issue a joint statement ahead of the upcoming trilogue negotiations on the Green Claims Directive.

Together, our four organisations represent over 3 million companies and around 20 million jobs in the retail and hospitality sectors across Europe. While we support the objective of ensuring reliable environmental claims, we are deeply concerned that the trilogue process has so far failed to deliver any meaningful simplification. The current proposal risks introducing excessive bureaucracy, increased costs, and legal uncertainty – ultimately acting as a barrier to sustainability and innovation.

The joint statement urges EU co-legislators to delay any final agreement until the Directive is significantly simplified and more proportionate.

HOTREC remains committed to supporting transparent and credible environmental communication, while safeguarding the competitiveness of SMEs across Europe.
