Hotel Calimala is thrilled to announce the opening of its Milan outpost, located at Via Melzo 7, in the historic and vibrant Porta Venezia district. Blending modern sophistication with an appreciation for Milan’s storied culture, Hotel Calimala Milan delivers an immersive experience that brings luxury, serenity, and a dash of local flavour to travellers and locals alike. With 88 meticulously designed rooms, including four premium suites, guests will experience the utmost comfort with an ambiance that encapsulates the dynamic spirit of Milan’s Centro Storico. The hotel also boasts a ground floor espresso bar and a two storey rooftop, featuring a bar and a swimming pool, as well as a restaurant which will launch in the spring of 2026.

Designed by acclaimed architect and designer Alex Meitlis, Hotel Calimala Milan marks a departure from the brand’s original Florence property, embodying a fresh aesthetic inspired by the unique character of the city. The hotel’s design reflects a “Total Design Project,” in which everything – furniture, lighting, and art – has been custom-crafted for the property. Floors crafted from oversized, locally-sourced black marble terrazzo – cut onsite, and interiors with rich, glossy walnut wood, glass, and bursts of colour offer a timeless look that celebrates Milan’s artisan traditions. Meitlis describes the project as a “love letter to Milan,” influenced by the city’s heritage of fashion, art, and urban vibrancy.

For Meitlis, the Milan property also holds personal significance, designed with his late husband, Ivo Bisignano, an editor at Condé Nast Italia, in mind. The project gently reflects the essence of Ivo, a true Milanese, seamlessly blending timeless sophistication with personal sentiment and homage to the city’s vibrant spirit.

Hotel Calimala Milan’s interior also pays homage to the city’s artistic heritage, with a unique focus on photography by Dafna Arnon, curated by artist Carmel Ilan, bringing Milan’s dedication to art and design to life. Each guest room doubles as a curated art installation, with decor and lighting that feel distinctively Milanese, further enhanced by thoughtful details that honour the city’s renowned craftsmanship.

Large windows which open to balconies bathe all six room types – Single, Superior, Deluxe, Comfort, Terrace Suite and the Penthouse Suite – with natural light, which in turn reflects on the mirrored and stained glass and glossy steel surfaces in the room. Mood lighting and solid fixtures compliment crafted furnishings and design pieces curated in a sophisticated colour palette of clay pink, citrus orange, and minty blue. These design choices all perfectly juxtapose the black terrazzo flooring, and clean, modern lines, bringing a fashion-forward spice to the rooms.

In stainless steel frames, guests can gaze into the photographic scenes, with images depicting mostly design and architecture features, which were captured on-the-go by photographer Dafna Arnon, presenting enticing moments and scenes from her day-to-day life. As part of her meticulous curation, Carmel Ilan carefully selected the dimensions and framing of the photographs before commissioning the pieces, envisioning them as integral design elements that would captivate guests and seamlessly enhance the overall ambiance of the room.

Set between the ground and fourth floor, rooms are equipped with rain showers, TV’s, coffee machines, a safe, and mini bar, with the suites offering fully stocked full sized bars. Truly transporting guests to a new space, travellers of every kind can find their ideal space in Hotel Calimala Milan.

Porta Venezia’s Newest Dining Destinations

Located in one of Milan’s most beautiful residential areas, Hotel Calimala Milan invites both visitors and locals to enjoy its eateries. On the ground floor, just off the lobby, sits an espresso bar, with both indoor and outdoor seating, offering a relaxed space for enjoying coffee, wines, and aperitivo bites. Embracing the community-centric spirit of Porta Venezia, locals can enjoy direct access from the street.

At FIVE, the hotel’s restaurant situated on the fifth floor opening in Spring 2026, guests will be able to enjoy a dining experience that blends urban energy with timeless style. Featuring a Mediterranean-inspired menu crafted by Chef Moshiko Gamlali, FIVE’s decadent dishes merge seasonal ingredients and the natural flavours of olive oil, lemon juice and fresh herbs. The menu will include light portions and small plates, with sections dedicated to crudo, pasta, and fish, all crafted to encourage communal dining and curated to speak to the hotel’s ethos of quality, with changing daily specials offered on a regular basis.

With a vision of high-quality yet relaxed dining, FIVE, will feature an open kitchen and a lively, upscale ambiance with an urban vibe, seating up to 80 guests. Promising lively evenings across both indoor and outdoor seating, diners will have the option to sit in FIVE‘smain restaurant or in The Salon, a cosier drinks lounge, perfect for pre-dinner imbibing and light bites, with an extensive wine list, curated music, and warm, effortless service.

Ascending the large spiral staircase to the sixth floor, the hotel is one of few in Milan to feature a rooftop swimming pool, now open for guests. The sophisticated setting will offer breathtaking city views with a special poolside menu, providing bathers with international snacks and dishes, creating the ideal destination to unwind and socialise.

Opened in July 2025 Hotel Calimala Milan is ready to redefine the concept of modern luxury in Milan, offering travellers an elegant, joyful and comfortable stay in the heart of Porta Venezia.
