The Castle Hotel in Tamworth has been sold by Watling Real Estate for an undisclosed sum.ย
The Grade II listed property dates back to the 17th Century, and has been acquired by a private investor who plans to refurbish and reopen the site.ย ย
The hotel closed in January 2025 and Watling Real Estate was instructed to sell the property with vacant possession on behalf of joint liquidators, Kim Richards and Richard Tonks of BK Plus.
The hotel has 20 ensuite bedrooms, two wedding and conferencing suites, a restaurant with seating for approximately 80 covers, as well as a bar formerly known as The Bow Street Runner with independent access off Market Street.
There is also a former nightclub which was granted planning consent in 2022 for change of use into two apartments.ย
The 20,409 sq ft property is adjacent to Tamworth Castle, which overlooks the mouth of the River Anker.
Toby OโSullivan, a director within Watling Real Estateโs Birmingham team, said: โThe Castle Hotel was a well-known and popular wedding and events venue, and we are pleased to have achieved a sale in what is a difficult market for hospitality. We are especially pleased The Castle Hotel will continue to trade as a hotel, bringing new jobs and visitors to Tamworth.โ
