EasyHotel has introduced digital room keys via Apple Wallet at its London City Shoreditch and Paris Aubervilliers hotels.
Guests can now add a room key to Apple Wallet on their iPhone or Apple Watch, allowing access to rooms and shared spaces by holding the device near an NFC-enabled lock.
With Express Mode, guests do not need to unlock their device to use the feature, and Power Reserve allows continued access if a phone battery is low.
The system also enables remote updates, meaning room changes, late check-out or extended stays can be activated without visiting reception. Keys are automatically deactivated at check-out.
The rollout is part of the hotel group’s efforts to simplify travel and cut waste by reducing reliance on plastic key cards. The company previously introduced wooden alternatives, which it said removed the need for 55,000 plastic cards annually.
The launch follows a collaboration with guest experience technology firm Alliants and access control provider Dormakaba.
Louis Poisson, chief operating officer, said: “The introduction of room key in Apple Wallet at our London City Shoreditch and Paris Aubervilliers hotels is a significant step towards an easy, secure and private experience that allows guests to access their rooms seamlessly with just their iPhone or Apple Watch. We’re excited to expand this to more of our hotels in the near future.”
