HOTEL HERON OPENS IN ALEXANDRIA: Hotel Heron has officially opened in Alexandria, Va. The hotel building was the former home to the George Mason Hotel, which opened in 1926. The adaptive reuse project combines the former inn with an adjacent new building which features 134 rooms. The revitalized boutique hotel is part of the Aparium Hotel Group. Located in Old Town Alexandria, close to King Street Mile and Alexandria’s waterfront, the hotel features Colonial Revival architecture. Inspired by the heron, the year-round resident of Alexandria, the hotel’s design was led by Washington, D.C.-based architects Antonovich Associated, with interiors designed by Streetsense. The hotel offers three restaurants and bars, a fitness center, co-working spaces and more than 3,500 square feet of indoor event space.
