IHG Hotels & Resorts has expanded its presence in Spain and signed four hotels: Vignette Collection Mallorca – Finca Banyols, Vignette Collection Jerez, Hotel Indigo Gandia – Beach and Holiday Inn Express San Sebastian – Errenteria.

This builds on the 500 rooms added to IHG’s Spanish portfolio earlier in the year, taking the total of open and signed rooms to around 13,000 across the country.

Hotel Indigo Gandia – Beach and Vignette Collection Jerez expand the company’s luxury and lifestyle presence, with the latter becoming the second Vignette Collection-branded hotel in Spain. IHG signed the Vignette Collection Mallorca – Finca Banyols earlier this month. Holiday Inn Express San Sebastian – Errenteria builds on the strong tradition of IHG’s popular Holiday Inn brand family.

  • Vignette Collection Mallorca — Finca Banyols: Owned by Prevario Banyols, the property will mark the debut of Vignette Collection in Spain. The 45-room hotel is managed by Hotel Collection International – HCI and is situated over a local Mallorcan finca, amid vineyards and olive trees. The hotel is scheduled to open in the first half of 2025.
  • Vignette Collection Jerez: The boutique, 34-room hotel with Senator Hotels & Resorts will be become the brand’s second hotel in Spain when it opens in the second half of 2025. Located in the city center of Jerez, the hotel is a short walk from the main square of the old town.
  • Hotel Indigo Gandia – Beach: Also a part of Senator Hotels & Resorts, the 40-key beachfront hotel is located in the coastal city of Gandia and offers views of the Mediterranean Sea. Slated to open in mid-2025, the hotel will offer a beach club, pool, bar and a restaurant.
  • Holiday Inn Express San Sebastian – Errenteria: This is the second hotel to be signed with Hotel Collection International – HCI in this announcement, taking the partnership’s total to seven open and signed properties. The new hotel is located in the Errenteria neighbourhood, just outside San Sebastian and neat the airport of San Sebastian and the French border, and is expected to open in mid-2026.

IHG has been substantially growing its presence in Spain, where the lodging company has signed roughly 700 rooms in the first nine months of the year.

“This significant expansion demonstrates the continued trust our owners have in our brands to provide strong returns on their investments, and our commitment to support them to capture demand and drive performance through our powerful enterprise,” said Willemijn Geels, vice president, development, Europe, IHG.

IHG aims to accelerate its “powerhouse mainstream segment” and its luxury and lifestyle segment in Spain’s key urban and leisure markets.

Across Spain, IHG has a network of 55 hotels operating under eight brands (Six Senses, InterContinental, Kimpton, Hotel Indigo, voco, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn). IHG also has 22 open Iberostar properties, as well as 12 more in the pipeline, helping IHG cement its position in the resort and al-inclusive segment.

So far this year, IHG has announced the development of five new hotels under three brands sectors — luxury and lifestyle, premium and essentials — Hotel Indigo in Jerez de la Frontera, Vignette Collection Mallorca – Finca Banyols, voco Granada, Holiday Inn Express Seville – City and Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sabadell.

Spain’s tourism industry has been growing for the past few years, supported by the resilience of domestic tourism and healthy revival of international tourism. The country has been wooing international hotel brands, with more budget brands projected to expand their portfolio in the country, according to the recent Spanish Hotel Market Outlook.

The country’s hospitality market has mostly been defined by family-owned business, which originated in the 1950s and 1960s. Over time, these businesses expanded into newer markets and are now managed by the second or third generations, the study said. However, despite owner-operated hotels dominating the sector, management and franchise contracts have seen a healthy growth. Half of Spain’s total hotel room supply comes from owner-operated hotels, which presents a substantial opportunity for international hotel companies to convert this supply into branded hotels. In the past few years, 11 new hotel groups have debuted in Spain, the study added.
