Alpine-inspired The Chalet restaurant returns to Somerset House on Wednesday 13th November. Presented by pop-up legend Jimmy Garcia, The Chalet embraces the taste of the Alps. The restaurant features a seasonal menu of winter favourites and warming drinks; perfect for post-ice skating at Somerset House’s Skate.

Decked out in warm wood, (fake) fur and retro ski memorabilia, The Chalet is a charming, festive experience. An extensive menu features carefully sourced ingredients, some as close as Brixton, selected by Jimmy Garcia himself. A delicate plate of gin-cured salmon with pickled beetroot and seeded cracker uses Graveney Gin produced organically just down the road in Tooting. The charcuterie board features meats cured by Tempus in Weybridge with the quality matching that of Italy and Spain. Tempus only use ex-breeding sows and ex-dairy cows which just adds to the depth of flavour. Vicars Game, based in Reading, supply the wild boar sausages for Jimmy’s festive take on sausage and mash with pommes aligot (very cheesy mash).

Coming in a pair? Then you couldn’t possibly miss Jimmy’s famous dish, the British Cheese Fondue. Again, sourcing is important, with Ogleshield and Coastal Cheddar coming from Neals Yard Dairy. Dip to your heart’s content with sourdough bread from BreadBread Bakery in Brixton, baby potatoes, cornichons, silverskin onions and a mixed leaf salad. Vegan version available. A children’s menu is also available.

Heading to Skate, Somerset House’s ice skating experience? Brand new this year on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from 28th November is the Après Skate experience. For just £75, you’ll enjoy a welcome gluhwein, a delicious three course dinner which includes the British cheese fondue and Jimmy’s special ‘Christmas bauble’ dessert. There will be entertainment throughout the evening, including a good old Christmas sing-a-long around the piano.

The Chalet’s menus are carefully curated by Jimmy Garcia and inspired by his own Alpine experience. Jimmy ran ski chalets in the Alps delighting guests with delicious food after their days on the slopes. The Chalet brings that same comforting Alpine hospitality to Somerset House.
