Booking.com’s latest LGBTQ+ travel research reveals that travelers continue to face significant challenges

Despite these challenges, LGBTQ+ travelers are taking charge of their experiences. From making careful destination choices to pre-booking plane seats and adopting alter egos, they are actively managing their trips to navigate obstacles and seek out the best experiences.

  • 59% of LGBTQ+ travelers have faced discrimination while traveling, a figure that has remained stable year over year (58% in 2023);
  • 43% of respondents canceled a trip in the past year after seeing a destination’s unsupportive stance towards LGBTQ+ people;
  • Almost a third (31%) have had negative encounters with fellow flight passengers due to their LGBTQ+ identity;
  • 41% of LGBTQ+ travelers have created alter egos to safely navigate different environments while traveling.
