Booking.com PR makes the case for supporting smaller accommodations as a way to preserve the cultural richness of Europe’s hospitality landscape

In the latest edition of the European Accommodation Barometer, Booking.com revealed that hoteliers are overwhelmingly optimistic about the upcoming travel season, with a remarkable 16-to-1 ratio: 65% have positive expectations, while only 4% are negative.

  • Nordic and Spanish properties reported a strong positive outlook, with high occupancy and room rate growth. In contrast, hoteliers in France and Germany had more moderate expectations;
  • The upbeat sentiment was more pronounced among chain hotels than independent properties. The focus is not only on filling rooms, but doing so profitably;
  • Small and independent hotels are at a disadvantage as they do not have access to the closed systems used by larger chains, which is increasingly important as international arrivals grow.
