Recovery from the pandemic has motivated individuals and companies to explore new approaches to business travel

Oct 9, 2024

The “2024 GBTA Business Travel Index Outlook – Annual Global Report and Forecast” provides clear evidence of this trend. Released in July, it is based on comprehensive survey data from 4,100 business travelers in five global regions. The report highlights that one-day business trips are now the least preferred in terms of duration.

Key takeaways

  • Although the one-day business trip has fallen in popularity, it doesn’t mean that business travel has become less important. On the contrary, it has changed to focus on more thoughtful, productive and sustainable trips that prioritize traveler well-being and environmental impact;
  • Our data shows that three- to five-day trips have become the most common, accounting for 40% of all business travel. Two-night stays follow at 32%, while one-day trips have dropped to just 5%;
  • These longer trips maximize productivity and allow travelers to gain more value both professionally and personally. In fact, this shift has led to an increase in overall travel compared to pre-pandemic levels, when shorter trips were more common.
