The country’s move to combine AI with spiritual tourism isn’t just a clever marketing tactic, it’s about reshaping what it means to travel in a digital world

Oct 9, 2024

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has unveiled an AI-powered initiative to promote spiritual tourism. The program, called “Mu Thua Thai Pai Kub AI,” offers a modern approach to traditional astrology by tailoring travel experiences to individual tourists based on their astrological signs and birth dates.

Key takeaways

  • The app, which is expected to launch by late 2024, will recommend a range of spiritual and cultural destinations, including sacred temples, natural attractions, local eateries and traditional handicraft markets;
  • The initiative also includes a tarot card design contest for students from Thai art schools, combining cultural creativity with fortune-telling. Winning designs will be integrated into the app, engaging a younger audience while promoting local culture;
  • “Mu Thua Thai Pai Kub AI” is part of TAT’s broader strategy to tap into the growing “spiritual economy” by positioning Thailand’s rich cultural heritage and belief systems as a unique tourism offering.
