Founders Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes have taken over site on Thayer Street that was once home to Carlo Scotto’s Xier and most recently housed Peruvian izakaya concept Nakanojo.

Announcing the new opening on Instagram, Edson and Natalie said: “We are thrilled to announce the next chapter in our journey: we will be opening our third restaurant in Marylebone in November 2024.

“We look forward to welcoming all our regular and new guests to Santo Remedio Marylebone and to being a part of this neighbourhood.”

Edson, the former head of menu innovation at Wahaca, launched Santo Remedio with his wife Natalie on Shoreditch’s Rivington Street in 2016.

The initial restaurant was a huge hit with both diners and critics. The Observer’s Jay Rayner dubbed it to be ‘full of lightness and brightness, colour, punch and enthusiasm’.

However, just five months after opening the doors, the couple were forced to shutter the restaurant permanently.

Edson and Natalie subsequently relocated to London Bridge in 2017.

They eventually returned to Shoreditch in late 2021 with the opening of Santo Remedio Café on Great Eastern Street.

Speaking to Restaurant earlier this year, Natalie spoke of her and Edson’s long-term ambition for the business.

“In five years’ time I would like a collection of restaurants,” she said.

As well as cafés and full-service restaurants similar to those in Shoreditch and London Bridge, respectively, she said the pair are also open to the idea of taquerias, and bars with live music.

“[We want] to keep expanding the way people perceive Mexican food through different [concepts].”
