Shelf service: Ikea launches first high street restaurant

The new restaurant features self-service kiosks for ordering and serves an all-day menu that includes the brand’s signature meatballs.

Taking over a former Wasabi on King Street, the restaurant offers both grab-and-go and eat in and has space for 75 covers.

“We know how much our customers love the Ikea restaurant and we’re excited to celebrate the opening of our very first high street restaurant,” says Matthew Gould, market manager at Ikea London City.

Similarly to Ikea’s in-store restaurants, the high street site features a menu of notably affordable dishes.

They include a plate of meatballs with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce & lingonberry jam for £5.50; battered haddock served with chips and peas for £6.95; and penne pasta with tomato and basil sauce for £2.95.

There’s also a cooked breakfast available that includes two slices of bacon, two sausages, two hash browns, omelette, baked beans and a tomato for £3.75.

“Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street,” adds Gould.
