Accor has announced the addition of The Grand Tarabya Hotel to its portfolio in Istanbul. Located in the Tarabya neighborhood along the Bosphorus Strait, the property will undergo a significant renovation under Accor’s management. Once completed, The Grand Tarabya will be rebranded as a Fairmont hotel, contributing to the growing luxury hotel scene in Istanbul.

The Grand Tarabya, first opened in 1966, has been a notable establishment in Istanbul’s luxury hotel sector. Located along the Bosphorus, it is recognized for its architecture and its setting. The hotel underwent a restoration and reopened in 2013. The upcoming renovation by Accor aims to modernize and improve the property while preserving its historical elements, reinforcing its role in Istanbul’s luxury hotel market.

“The Grand Tarabya has an esteemed legacy, which we are honored to carry forward. With the proposed transformation of this landmark property, The Grand Tarabya will be a perfect addition to our portfolio, joining iconic Fairmont hotels such as The Plaza in New York and The Savoy in London. Together with our partners at Bayraktarlar Group, our vision is to preserve the property’s rich history and heritage while enhancing its appeal for today’s luxury travelers. With such exciting plans for the hotel, I have no doubt that The Grand Tarabya will quickly become one of our most sought-after destinations.”  – Omer Acar, CEO, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Raffles Hotels & Resorts.

The acquisition of The Grand Tarabya strengthens Accor’s portfolio in Istanbul, marking the group’s 38th property in the city. This expansion is part of Accor’s broader strategy to grow its presence in key cities across Europe and the Middle East. Istanbul continues to rise as a major destination for luxury travelers, and Accor’s investment in The Grand Tarabya reflects the city’s growing reputation in global hospitality.

Renovation plans and new offerings

The Grand Tarabya will undergo extensive renovations aimed at enhancing its facilities and services. Currently, the hotel offers 248 rooms and suites, 29 residences, seven food and beverage outlets, and a wellness center. Following the renovations, the hotel will continue to offer these amenities with updated features and improved services, bringing the property in line with the standards of the Fairmont brand. Moreover, guests will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Bosphorus Strait and quick access to Istanbul’s cultural and historical attractions.

“This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to invest in distinguished destinations that offer a unique blend of historical charm with modern luxury. The Grand Tarabya offers a prestigious setting that aligns with both Accor and Fairmont’s ethos, and we are confident under the new stewardship, the hotel will continue to thrive.” – Ahmet Bayraktar, Chairman Bayraktarlar Holding.

Fairmont’s integration and Accor’s growth in Turkey

Upon completion of the renovation, The Grand Tarabya will be rebranded under the Fairmont name. This will involve the introduction of Fairmont’s signature offerings while also reflecting the property’s heritage and local culture. The rebranding of the hotel will help solidify Istanbul’s position as a sought-after luxury destination.

Accor has an established presence in Turkey, with over 70 hotels operating across the country. The group’s diverse portfolio includes luxury brands such as Fairmont, Sofitel, and Raffles, as well as mid-range options like Novotel, Mercure, and Ibis.
