Following a two-year restoration, The Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, in Madrid, has reopened, reintroducing a historic landmark to the city’s hospitality scene. Previously known as The Westin Palace, Madrid, the hotel is now part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection.

Located in Barrio de las Letras, the hotel is near the Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Retiro Park and Plaza Mayor. As part of the UNESCO-listed Paisaje de la Luz, it remains central to the city’s cultural scene.

“The Palace has been part of Madrid’s history for over a century,” said Helen Leighton, vice president, luxury brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International. “This restoration honors its past while enhancing the guest experience.”

Ruiz Larrea Arquitectura restored the hotel’s façade, reviving its 1912 “Palace color” and decorative details. The iconic stained glass and iron dome, originally designed by Eduardo Ferrés i Puig, was dismantled and restored, along with the iconic glass palm tree chandelier in the lobby.

The interior redesign by Lázaro Rosa-Violán studio references some of the famous guests who once stayed, including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Mata Hari and Ernest Hemingway. The 470 guestrooms and suites feature hand-painted wallpapers inspired by El Retiro Park, bathroom mosaics depicting the Royal Botanical Gardens and furnishings that blend classic and contemporary styles.

La Cúpula, the hotel’s main restaurant, offers an all-day dining experience under the dome. The restaurant features Castilian leather stools and curated artwork, as well as renowned dishes such as Picasso’s Waldorf Salad and Julio Camba’s Steak Tartare, both reinterpreted with a modern twist. The former Museo Bar, now 27 Club, pays tribute to Spain’s Generation of ‘27 poets with historical elements —including original guest books and a collection of artwork— and a curated cocktail menu featuring reimagined classics.
