City Express by Marriott has officially entered the U.S. market with the opening of City Express by Marriott Duluth, 30 minutes outside downtown Atlanta. The property is the first City Express by Marriott hotel in the U.S. and marks the brand’s expansion into the affordable midscale segment in North America. More than a dozen additional properties are scheduled to open across the region throughout the year.

Marriott International acquired the City Express brand in 2022 and has since expanded its presence in the segment. With a conversion-friendly model, City Express by Marriott offers an efficient stay experience for business and leisure travelers. Each property features guest rooms with high-speed internet, a complimentary breakfast and 24-hour market access. Additional amenities include pet-friendly policies and on-site fitness facilities.

“The introduction of City Express by Marriott properties in the U.S. represents a pivotal moment for Marriott International as we continue to expand our footprint in the midscale segment,” said Noah Silverman, global development officer, U.S. and Canada. “The value proposition that this conversion-friendly, transient midscale brand brings both to owners and guests has turned City Express by Marriott into a powerhouse in the Caribbean and Latin America region, and we are thrilled to deliver this same combination of value to the U.S. and Canada.”

The expansion includes over 45 signed agreements, with several locations set to open this year. Properties include City Express by Marriott New Orleans Northeast and City Express by Marriott Chicago Downtown in the second quarter, followed by City Express by Marriott Orlando International Drive and City Express by Marriott Port Hope in Ontario, Canada.

“The launch of City Express by Marriott in the U.S. and Canada market underscores our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of all travelers,” said Diana Plazas-Trowbridge, chief lodging products officer, U.S. and Canada. “Whether for business or leisure, guests at City Express by Marriott in the U.S. and Canada will now experience the same seamless, efficient stay that has made the brand a success in the Caribbean and Latin America region.”

City Express by Marriott has continued its expansion across Latin America, with planned openings in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Peru. Eight new properties are expected to open within the next three years. The company has also announced plans to bring the brand to Brazil.

The City Express by Marriott properties in the U.S. and Canada will participate in Marriott Bonvoy, Marriott International’s travel program, allowing members to earn and redeem points across the brand portfolio.
