Accor and Propreal Capital Partners have announced the signing of Sofitel Porto, scheduled to open in 2028. This will be the second Sofitel-branded property in Portugal, following Sofitel Lisbon Avenida Liberdade, and the second collaboration between Accor and Propreal after Sofitel Barcelona Skipper.

Located between Avenida dos Aliados and Rua de Santa Catarina, the hotel will occupy a protected building in Porto’s historic center. Sofitel Porto will include 132 rooms across approximately 11,000 square meters, along with restaurants, bars, event space and landscaped areas. Interior design will be led by Lázaro Rosa-Violán.

The building’s façade will be preserved as part of a larger restoration project. The design aims to incorporate Portuguese materials and local craftsmanship while reflecting Sofitel’s French heritage.

The property will be Accor’s first luxury hotel in Porto, a market where the group already operates hotels under the Novotel, Mercure and ibis brands.

“Sofitel Porto is a key milestone for our active development strategy in Portugal, a priority market for the Accor group. This signing reinforces our presence in two iconic cities, offering complementary urban experiences. Following the successful opening of Sofitel Barcelona Skipper, we are very happy to partner again with Propreal Capital Partners,” said Xavier Grange, chief development officer for Sofitel, Sofitel Legend, MGallery & Emblems.

Propreal will oversee the development and has begun planning the conversion in coordination with city authorities.

“The Iberian Peninsula and particularly Portugal has been a key focus for Propreal Capital Partners. We continue to see strong growth potential in the region and remain committed to identifying and actively developing landmark assets where we can create value for our investors. With Sofitel Porto, we have secured an exceptional location in the heart of a booming city, ensuring that this property will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the region,” said Yves de Kerdanet, founder and CEO of Propreal Capital Partners.

Accor said Sofitel Porto will feature multiple dining options and public areas designed to attract both hotel guests and local residents. In addition, the group is exploring partnerships with Portuguese chefs and hospitality operators.

“Porto is a city with a deep cultural and historical identity, and we are honored to introduce Sofitel in such a prestigious location. True to our brand promise of building cultural bridges between French and local cultures, Sofitel Porto will further strengthen the deep-rooted connection between Portugal and France,” said Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery and Emblems.
