Adagio has opened its newest flagship property in the U.K., marking the brand’s fourth aparthotel in London and ninth in the country. The Adagio Original London City East features 132 studios and apartments for one to eight guests and introduces several innovations to the brand’s offering.
Located five minutes from Aldgate East and Whitechapel stations, the property offers access to the City and several nearby landmarks. Guests are within walking distance of the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Brick Lane and Old Spitalfields Market.
The site is housed in a newly built structure designed with a mix of traditional red brick and a modern aesthetic. It also debuts Adagio’s new apartment concept, the Smart House, which features open-plan spaces, multifunctional furniture and a palette of warm colors. According to the brand, the layout is meant to provide “the highest level of comfort” and help guests feel at home quickly.
The London City East location is the first in the market to include “Coliving by Adagio,” a concept that combines four individual studios with a shared kitchen and living room. These units were designed to support longer stays for families, friends or work groups. Each studio includes a private bathroom and toilet.
The property’s decor also features a site-specific installation by Whitechapel-based artist The Line Girl. Known for her black-and-white graphic style, the artist created a mural that extends from the lobby to the elevators and through the corridors. Adagio described the piece as “an immersive visual journey” that reflects the neighborhood’s character and culture.
Adagio said the integration of artwork into its spaces is a core principle of its newer Original properties. The brand described the approach as placing art “at the heart of every stay.”
“The opening of the Adagio Original London City East, right in the heart of London, marks a major milestone for Adagio. Firstly, because the United Kingdom is one of our priority areas for growth in the coming years. But above all, because this location perfectly embodies our vision of the city: energetic and full of promise, multicultural and inclusive, brimming with endless business opportunities and a thriving cultural scene. A perfect illustration of the mindset driving our new strategic plan, FIRST!,” said Arthur Jaeger, chief development and real estate officer.
